Enkiama is small by choice, which means almost everything you experience is delivered alongside someone else — a camp, a lodge, a guide, a family, a boat. Who those people are is not a logistical detail. It is the journey.

The standard

Family only when they hold to what we hold to.

We are asked occasionally for our list of partners, as though it were an inventory. It is not. A partner joins an Enkiama journey because we know how they treat people — their staff, their neighbours, and you — and they stay because that has not changed.

The test we apply is simple and not negotiable: are the people who work here paid properly and treated with respect? Is the place honest about what it is? Would we send someone we love here? If any answer is no, no rate makes it acceptable.

What we tell you

Named, with reasons.

Every proposal we compose names each lodge, camp, guide and cultural partner, and says why that one — not just its category or star rating, but what it does well, who runs it, and what it will cost you. Where a property is owned locally, we say so. Where it is not, we say that too.

We will also tell you when a famous name is not worth its price, and when a lesser-known camp is better than the one you have read about. That judgment is the thing you are actually engaging us for.

On properties we hire

Owned by others, answerable to us.

We do not own lodges, and we think that is a strength. It means we have no empty room to fill and no reason to send you anywhere except the place that suits you best.

An operator who owns its properties has an interest in filling them. We would rather keep the freedom to say that this season, for your group, somewhere else is better.

The whole team at the table

And the partners who welcome it.

We work only with partners who welcome our guides and crew as equals — by name, at the same table, at every meal, unless you would rather otherwise. This is not a small preference. In much of this industry the guiding team is quietly kept apart, and we have never understood it.

It is a condition of working with us, and it has occasionally cost us a partnership. We consider that a good trade.

If something is wrong

Tell us, not them.

If a partner falls short during your journey, we want to hear it from you immediately, while we can still fix it. We take that up directly, and if a partner cannot hold the standard, they stop being one.

We would rather lose a supplier than send the next traveller somewhere we no longer believe in.

Which lodges and camps does Enkiama work with?

We name every property, guide and partner in the written proposal we compose for you, along with the reason each was chosen. We do not publish a fixed list, because the right place depends entirely on your journey, your season and your group.

Does Enkiama own its own lodges?

No, and we consider that a strength. Owning properties creates an interest in filling them. We would rather keep the freedom to send you wherever genuinely suits you best.

How do you choose partners?

On how they treat people — their staff, their neighbours and you. Fair pay and honest dealing are conditions of working with us, and we require that our guides and crew are welcomed as equals rather than kept apart.
